Your support means so much to us – but most importantly,
…….it means everything to the animals in our care.
The Kloof and Highway SPCA are focused on the prevention of cruelty to animals. Animals are vulnerable to the attitudes of man and depend on the compassion and concern of caring individuals who recognise them as sentient beings and who appreciate their responsibility to protect animals from pain, suffering and neglect.
The Kloof and Highway SPCA provide a comprehensive service to a large community and especially vast rural areas in order to fulfil our obligation in the protection of animals and to prevent cruelty, neglect and suffering.
It is through your support that we are able to reach out to thousands of animals every year through our outreach clinics and Inspectorate mandate to protect animals, prevent cruelty, educate and take action against those who neglect or abuse the animals in their care through the Animals Protection Action and other supporting statutes.
Our SPCA is growing from strength to strength and constantly improving and expanding our services. Our SPCA has extremely high standards and we are always thinking of ways we can do better and would welcome any advice or ideas you may have.
The SPCA movement constantly strives to guarantee animals their Five Freedoms which are:
Freedom from thirst, hunger and malnutrition
Freedom from discomfort
Freedom from pain, injury or disease
Freedom to express normal behavior
Freedom from fear and distress

MARILYN’S TEA GARDEN
Marilyn's Tea Garden is fast becoming one of the most popular venues in the Upper Highway area to gather and visit with family and friends. In recent months we have seen immense improvements, changes and refurbishments in and around the magnificent old farmhouse and gardens, all of which have added more appeal to the already stunning environment.
The grand old house, with its wrap around veranda, is one of the original farmhouses ever built in Kloof. The veranda, with drop down blinds for protection from the wind and rain, now offers comfortable seating for approximately 40 people, with views of the garden and nursery. Inside the house is an intimate and cosy 12 seater restaurant for those looking for a little more privacy and this venue can also double up as a small conference room for corporate meetings comfortably seating 10 delegates. For families and friends, wishing to sit in the gardens and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air there is now ample seating to sit and eat and while away the day.
Our tea garden restaurant offers a menu with choices for breakfast and lunch, as well as an array of delectable, home baked cakes to satisfy any sweet tooth. Hot and cold beverages are also on sale and freshly made popcorn is now available for the children. Every Saturday, last Sunday of the month and public holidays a sumptuous breakfast buffet is on offer in the garden, so do come, eat, relax and enjoy the ambiance and the live music presented by Belinda Dolphin and friends.
For those wishing to catch up on some work while relaxing over a fresh scone and cappuccino, we have free Wi Fi available for you to connect to the internet. An ideal opportunity to mix business with pleasure!
FREE RANGE POLICY
In keeping with our SPCA's policy of zero tolerance for cruelty to animals all meat products and eggs used in our menu items have been carefully sourced from various free range farms in and around Kwa Zulu Natal. Free range eggs are available for sale at the tea garden daily.
FUN AND ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE CHILDREN
The safe, beautiful gardens offer plenty of space for children to run and play while moms and dads relax and enjoy the facilities. The soft play area for toddlers under the age of four years, has been relocated to the shady spot under the trees, close to all the other children amenities. This area is fenced off for the safety of the toddlers and has tables close by for the mom's to sit and relax, while also being able to keep an eye on the bigger children. With 5 jungle gyms, swings and slides available every day, we also have a jumping castle available on a Monday, Thursday, Saturday and every last Sunday of the month and Public Holidays. A true paradise for children and parents alike!
Since its relocation from the Village Green to the beautiful spot next to Marilyn’s Tea Garden, the nursery has gone from strength to strength. Run by our very dedicated and helpful staff members who are assisted on weekends by a small group of volunteers who are willing and able to offer a wealth of knowledge and expertise when it comes to where, when and what to plant. We thank these volunteers for their dedicated and long years of service to our SPCA and value their unwavering support.
Seedlings, shrubs, trees, compost, potting soil and a range of indoor and outdoor plants are available for sale, as well a range of concrete garden pots, fountains and ornaments. Please do pop in, have a cup of coffee or a meal on the veranda overlooking the nursery and then take time to browse through the tranquil surrounds. We have something for everyone!
